"We cannot recommend Dr. Scantling enough!"

We had many challenges in our relationship that we needed to overcome if we were to continue in our marriage. Dr. Scantling skillfully guided us both individually and together as we uncovered the depth of our issues. She challenged us to dig deep into the parts of us that were both difficult and scary to face. She supported us and presented us with practical tools to face our struggles and practice skills that are remarkably transforming for us.

"Dr. Sandy has done wonders for our marriage. Despite a deep love for one another, our individual mental health issues were impacting the intimacy of our relationship. Dr. Sandy worked with us both separately and in a couples setting to help us let go of the "parts" that were keeping us apart.

Six years and one toddler later, Dr. Sandy is still a key factor in helping us maintain a fulfilling marriage. Dr. Sandy's decades of experience are invaluable. She makes us feel comfortable being ourselves because she is unapologetically herself, which we truly appreciate. She consistently brings transparency, humor and professionalism to our sessions, which makes it incredibly easy to open up and make progress."

"Dr. Scantling is easy to talk to and genuinely listens so I can really open up when we talk. I've been seeing her to help me figure out what is keeping me from pursuing a relationship and her insights have been invaluable. Not only is she helping me recognize and understand the causes but has been encouraging me to take steps in the right direction. I'm not there yet but when I am, I know she'll be there to support me. With years of experience and a good heart, I feel lucky to be able to work with her."

"Dr. Sandy has been incredibly helpful to my husband and me. We sought her help when we were struggling to recapture our intimacy and joy. Dr. Sandy worked with us individually and jointly, and guided us back to each other. She challenged each of us, asked hard questions, and helped us give each other grace. We have now been married for over 20 years, and continue to rely on the skills and practices we learned during our sessions with Dr. Sandy, especially when life and old habits disrupt our connection."

"Dr. Scantling is an excellent psychotherapist with a unique background as a psychiatric nurse specialist as well as a clinical psychologist. She is well versed in a number of modalities of psychotherapy including IFS, which gives her an uncanny ability to really delve into the dynamics of what each of her patients needs, be this on an individual basis or as part of couples therapy.

During my time working with her this year, Dr. Scantling taught me how to really identify what my patients are attempting to tell me without stating it outright. She is extremely effective at navigating the complexities of interpersonal relationships and is an excellent psychotherapist that I would recommend to anyone."

"Dr. Scantling is an exceptional psychotherapist whose expertise is strengthened by her unique background as both a Psychiatric Nurse Specialist and Clinical Psychologist. During my fourth-year psychiatry residency, she served as my psychotherapy supervisor, helping me develop a deeper understanding of the unspoken emotions and patterns patients often communicate beneath the surface. Her insight into complex interpersonal dynamics is remarkable, and her guidance has had a lasting impact on my clinical practice. I recommend her without hesitation to anyone seeking thoughtful, compassionate, and highly skilled psychotherapy."

She is compassionate and encouraging during difficult discussions. We have gained so much in our ability to recognize events that in the past would have caused poor decisions and avoidance. We are now capable of seeing situations for what they are. We can articulate our feelings without falling into old patterns. We recognize that this requires daily practice. We are so very grateful for her expertise."

"I worked with Dr. Scantling beginning in my late 50s. I was challenged by my inability to attach to my loving yet very human partner (and deal with my anxiety over just about everything else). I was particularly attracted to internal family systems (IFS) therapy as it explored how "phantoms" from my problematic family of origin might continue to prevent any real progress moving forward.

Over time, I learned to identify my historic "protectors" and honor their past usefulness while acknowledging their current interference in moving forward. My recovery journey continues of course; but Dr. Scantling's confrontive, at times humorous, while always affirming, style remains my touchstone.

When we terminated treatment, I felt I had internalized her approach to the degree that I could navigate my own path with confidence. I cannot recommend her insightful, lighthearted, yet challenging approach too highly. "

"Dr. Scantling has been incredibly helpful to my husband and me. She is knowledgeable, does not push her own views, and asks tough but caring questions. I look forward to our sessions, and never feel like I am getting 1-size-fits-all counseling."

"I couldn't have begun the work of healing if I didn't feel safe, seen and empowered by Dr. Scantling. She was the first therapist to engage me in a thought-provoking writing exercise as a means to explore my patterns of thinking and behaviors. We reviewed this information together. From that session on, I knew I was in the right place to begin this work.

Dr. Scantling is compassionate, empathetic and non-judgmental. Having these attributes along with her clinical expertise, Dr. Scantling established what I know to be the cornerstone of our working relationship and trust. This deep, intimate self-work was not possible for me in the past with other therapists because they didn't take the time to learn who I was and what motivated me and my behaviors. Dr. Scantling skillfully guided me using a unique therapy model which allowed me to embrace all of my 'parts'. As I was building self-awareness, Dr. Scantling empowered me to reflect on our work outside of our sessions. I was truly growing by acknowledging these 'parts' with gratitude, not shame! What a breakthrough!

I am now empowered with skills to help me consider my thoughts and what the impetus is behind them. This is a paradigm shift in thought processes for me. Life wasn't happening to me. Rather I was reacting to events using old coping strategies which no longer served me. Instead, I have learned to acknowledge the part of me which 'feels some way' and react with the adult me which 'knows some way'.

Dr. Scantling is generous sharing her knowledge, life experiences and recollections, which she skillfully shares to bring challenges into meaningful focus for me in order to help me deal with the loss of a parent and former spouse, the end of a significant relationship, being a mother, a daughter, a friend — all while leading with love and acceptance. Dr. Scantling continues to help me heal myself.

I am truly fortunate and grateful to Dr. Scantling."

"We are forever grateful for Dr. Scantling! My husband and I decided we wanted a baby and were ready to conceive. We soon realized we were having difficulty actually having sex. We wondered if this could be a real thing? My husband and I were experiencing anxiety and tension related to everything intimate. We decided we needed help. That's when we decided to contact Dr. Scantling. She immediately assured us we were in fact candidates for her therapy. She validated our concerns and told us the hardest part was reaching out to her with our problem.

In our first few sessions, she told us we were going to put the idea of a baby on hold while we focused on other aspects of our intimacy. Dr. Scantling taught us how to be more confident and comfortable with our own sexual wants and needs. She taught us how to focus on our own pleasure and how to communicate our desires with one another. She kept the pressure of conceiving out of our therapy. Everything we did was a step in the right direction.

Each week, we debriefed in detail the interactions we had with one another. She helped us see that sex was not just penetration — it was whatever you and your partner decide feels good to you in the moment. Dr. Scantling gave us "challenges" to work on each week, and offered ideas for changing the mood such as different lighting, candles, and music. It soon became part of our routine and helped us normalize our concerns and also our victories. Dr. Scantling empowered us to try new things and helped build our confidence to communicate.

We looked forward to our therapy sessions. Dr. Scantling was genuinely interested in our weekly activities and wanted to hear every detail. She was gentle and caring in her approach and never made us feel judged.

Each week, Dr. Scantling praised us for the progress and helped us see the positive even when we were doubting ourselves. Over time, sex became something we looked forward to and not something to avoid. We now had the tools we needed to communicate our wants, and both learned how to initiate intimacy.

Before we knew it, we discovered intercourse was in fact possible. Through our work with Dr. Scantling, we became closer than we ever imagined. We continued our weekly therapy sessions for close to two years when, to our surprise, we had conceived our baby! We were beyond excited and thrilled to announce our news to Dr. Scantling. We had achieved our ultimate goal in the best way possible — free from pressure, tension or anxiety.

Without Dr. Scantling's therapy, a baby would not have been possible. She helped us achieve our goal and so much more. Her teachings are now a part of our daily lives. We think about her often and incorporate her advice regularly. Dr. Scantling helped us take our relationship to a whole new level!"
